The nebula was quiet, but Admiral Elara Vance knew the silence was deceptive. The enemy had retreated, but a phantom menace still lurked in the gas clouds-a fleet of cloaked ships, waiting for the right moment to strike.

"Command, this is Vance. I'm detecting faint energy signatures near the edge of the sector."

"Copy, Vance. Investigate but remain cautious."

She guided her fighter toward the source, her sensors straining. The signatures were faint, but unmistakable-a fleet of phantom ships, hidden in the nebula's depths.

"There," she said. "I've found them."

She fired a volley at the lead ship, and its cloak flickered, revealing its hull.

"Contact," she said. "I'm engaging."

The phantom fleet scattered, but she pursued, picking them off one by one.

"Command, the phantom fleet is destroyed."

"Copy, Vance. Good work. You've eliminated a serious threat."

Elara turned her fighter toward home, the nebula closing in behind her. The enemy had tried to use stealth against them, but she had seen through their trick.

She knew there would be more phantom fleets, more hidden threats. But she was learning to see them, to track them, to destroy them.

The galaxy was a battlefield of shadows, and she was becoming a master of the hunt. She would keep pursuing the phantoms through the nebulae until the enemy had nowhere left to hide. The End.

The briefing room was cold, the lights dim. Captain Elena Vasquez sat at the table, her team around her, their faces tired but alert. Colonel Matthews stood at the front, a holographic display showing a new target.

"Intelligence has identified a hostile airbase in the mountains," Matthews began. "They're planning to launch a strike on the capital. We need to stop them before that happens."

Elena studied the display-the terrain, the defenses, the unknown. "What's the mission?"

"Stealth bombing. You'll go in at night, take out the runway and the fuel depots. Extraction at dawn."

Marcus leaned forward, his eyes on the display. "How many fighters on site?"

"Estimates say a dozen. Maybe more."

Elena's jaw tightened. A dozen enemy fighters. Six American bombers. The odds weren't good.

"When do we leave?" she asked.

"Twenty-four hours. Get some rest."

The team filed out, their boots echoing on the metal floor. Elena walked with Marcus, their shoulders almost touching.

"A dozen to six," Marcus said. "Those aren't great odds."

Elena nodded. "We've faced worse."

"Have we?"

She stopped, turned to face him. "We've faced worse. And we've always come through. This time won't be different."

Marcus was quiet for a moment. Then he nodded. "Okay."

They walked toward the barracks, toward rest, toward whatever came next. The mission was in twenty-four hours. The enemy was waiting.

But Elena Vasquez was ready. She was always ready.
